Thimiana

Thimiana is one of the largest villages in Chios and is located very close to Kampos and Chios town. Formerly named Efthimiana, the site was known for its many stone quarries, from where people used to extract the so-called thimiana rock in different shades of brown and red. The great church of Agios Efstratios, a masterpiece of local architecture situated in Thimiana, is built out of that specific rock. Close to Agios Efstratios church, visitors can enjoy Fatouros garden. Thimiana is also famous for its carnival celebrations, locally called Mostra.
