Patrika

Patrika

Patrika is a small, picturesque village of southeastern Chios. According to manuscripts discovered, its first house was built in 1050. The village was once walled and had castle-gates in accordance with the pattern of the "village-castles" of southern Chios. But the earthquake of 1949 caused severe damages, and its rebuilding contributed to the loss of many aspects of its past architecture. Locals are mostly farmers, producing mastiha, olive oil and other agricultural products. There are many old churches in the village, while the parochial church is honoured in the name of St. George (Agios Georgios). The village square is especially picturesque and a walk through the alleys will definitely reward visitors with the beauty of Patrika.
