Gas chromatographic¯mass spectroscopic analysis of the acidic triterpenic fraction of mastic gum

The acidic fraction of mastic gum, the resin of Pistacia lentiscus L. var. Chia, was analyzed using GC¯MS. Ten triterpenoid acids ¯ three already known ¯ were tentatively identified as their methyl esters i.e., moronic, oleanonic, isomasticadienonic, masticadienonic, 18 H-oleanonic, oleanolic, 3-epiisomasticadienolic, masticadienolic, 3 -acetoxyisomasticadienolic and 3 -acetoxymasticadienolic acids.
